The many wines of the restaurant show

The Restaurant Show, running from 18 – 20 September 2006 at Olympia in London, is the only show dedicated to the restaurant trade with specially created food and drink areas showcasing the world’s best produce and brands.

THE SOMMELIERS LOUNGE
A sanctuary for sommeliers and wine buyers to relax, network and taste a vast array of wines away from the show floor including:
Prosecco Special Cuvèe Zonin - A beautifully balanced wine tinged with delicate almond notes typical of Prosecco. Excellent on its own or perfect for the famous “Bellini”.
Enotria Winecellars Ltd - 2005 Vinnae (Malvasia, Ribolla Gialla, Riesling), Vinnaioli Jermann, Friuli - Sandwiched next to the Slovenian border in the North East corner of Italy, Friuli has had a history of producing light aromatic white wines of immense drinkability but of little interest outside the region. 2005 Cometa, Planeta, Sicily - This is one of the two or three most famous wineries in Sicily and perhaps the one that has influenced more producers here. The 2005 Cometa is a Fiano with fascinating aromas of honeycomb, apple peel and mango - quite rich and certainly one of the most stylish examples of this varietal.
THE WINE ACADEMY
In association with The Academy of Food and Wine Service, The Restaurant Show will offer visitors a dedicated programme of talks on the wine industry, with recommendations and guidance from many leaders in the international wine community. Enotria Winecellars is widely regarded by the industry as one of the UK’s principle suppliers to the on trade with a customer base that includes three starred Michelin restaurants, owner operated establishments, restaurant chains, bars, hotels and gastro pubs.  Experts from Enotria will be talking about Italy’s importance to the UK on trade. FGL Wine Estates is the world's leading premium wine company with an unrivalled portfolio of premium wine brands including Beringer, Lindemans, Wolf Blass, Penfolds, Rosemount, Matua Valley, Wynns Coonawarra Estate and Castello di Gabbiano.   With talks about new releases and an introduction to the regional wines of Australia, FGL Wine Estates will talk about the importance of the country’s wine on the international market and how the Australian industry has grown from just 160 wineries in 1970 to more than 1,800, with new regions being pioneered across the country.
Experience the must have Chilean wines and understand why they are a must for any wine list.  Wines of Chile represents 90 Chilean wineries and comprises the members of two well established associations : Viñas de Chile and Chilevid. South Africa was recently awarded thirteen Best in Class gold medals (18 golds in total) at this year’s International Wine & Spirit Competition. Wines of South Africa is an independent, not for profit company, will talk about diversity on your wine list and introduce you to the many flavours of the country’s wine. Also represented in the Wine Academy is Champagne Jacquart, with ingrained knowledge of their 600 growers to produce the right quality fruit from over 800 hectares stretching across all the main regions of Champagne.  With demonstrations on Prestige Cuvee Champagne, Champagne Jacquart will look at Champagne as more than an aperitif. There is undeniably a special ‘magic’ about pulling a cork from a bottle of wine. Customers expect it – and the sommelier is well-trained in the art. Almost 90% of consumers still expect a bottle of quality wine to be closed by cork.  Find out about how the cork industry has spent years to develop state-of-the-art production methods that prevent and eradicate TCA; create new cork products to suit modern wine styles; and research the benefits of cork in maturing wines. From the wines themselves to their corks, the wine academy will feature talks, demonstrations and tastings covering the international wine industry.
