Modefabriek 22: two day fashion mecca gives a stylish start to winter season
The dutch fashion fair - innovates, surprises and sizzles
On Sunday 21 and March 22 January, the Amsterdam RAI was the beating heart of the national and international fashion world. The 22nd modefabriek surpassed all of the earlier fairs, with respect to the number of visitors (no less than 14,750 visitors!) and exhibitors (more than 425 labels) as well as with regard to fashion shows and entertainment. The organising committee looks back at a sizzling weekend, where again it has been proven that the Netherlands has now firmly established a permanent place for itself on the international fashion map.
Ones to watch Once again, the modefabriek showed everyone exactly why it has been the trendsetting Dutch fashion fair for more than 10 years. The three segments Glam & Glow, Better Blues and Ultimate Essentials were overflowing with new, trendsetting brands including Golf Junkie, Pantofola d'Oro, Global Funk, Nozomi, Trousers and Black Milk by Trousers. But even well-known top labels were not left out of the modefabriek - with brands like Bruuns Bazaar, By Malene Birger, Kenzo, Soaked in Luxury, G-Star, French Connection, Lagerfeld and S'nob all present at the two-day event. more information Knickerbocker glory Top brands such as Levi's, Produkt Homme, Van Gils, 10 Feet and Day Birger et Mikkelsen showed their newest collections on the catwalk. Public interest in the fashion shows was overwhelming, especially during the launch of new label Knickerbocker Glory on Sunday afternoon. Dutch celebrities including Froukje de Both, Birgit Schuurman and Monique Klemann were watching with great enthusiasm from the front row. The designs are original, sexy, tough and elegant and meant for women who rather than complain about what they don't possess, are happy with what they have been blessed with. Katja Römer-Schuurman is one of the investors behind this innovative label. TRCP Models also contributed to the entertainment on Sunday afternoon with a special Fashion Factory (F)act. A colourful urban fashion mix was put on show during this lively fashion parade, which criss-crossed the modefabriek fair floor. more information High promises The modefabriek originally began as a creative platform for like-minded souls. The organising committee has stayed true to its roots and again during this fair gave full attention to young, upcoming designers. The Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) showed a selection of their Individuals collection, which will also be for sale in a large Individuals Store that will open its doors later this year. The Dutch Fashion Foundation was present with huge upcoming talents Joline Jolink and Mada van Gaans. Refreshing designer Emily Hermans was one of the High Promises at the modefabriek and enjoyed overwhelming interest from both the press and retailers. more information Superstore 2 Everything going on at the 400-m2 Superstore was about inspiration and creativity. Visitors were introduced to challenging and stimulating design. Artists Hans van Bentem and Jannita van den Haak van Janissima (!) were also at the Superstore giving extra power to their work. The boys from Leyp had their own studio in the Superstore where visitors could have their sneakers customised in the original manner. As the ultimate bling-bling experience, hard-core shoppers at the Superstore could even have a "grill" fitted, a row of gold and glitter over their teeth. Furthermore, the Superstore presented an absolute world premier: famous NBA basketball player Stephon Marbury launched his own shoe, Starbury One, at the modefabriek. What's unique about this exclusive, autographed shoe is the price. Stephon very much wanted to design a shoe that looked cool and was good for playing basketball in, but that was not as ridiculously expensive as other brands. The result is a must-have sneaker accessible to everyone. The Starbury One by Stephon Marbury only costs $ 15.00. more information Harmonic distortion Together with fashion trade magazine LINK and jeans label 55DSL, the modefabriek organised a fashionable cocktail party and fabulous fashion show to close the first fair day in style. 55DSL showed their new fall/winter collection, in which all the trends for the coming season were translated into a strong men's and women's collection. The show was followed by a closing party, rocked by the funky beats of the DJ's and the eclectic mixture of visitors including trendsetting retailers, opinion-leading members of the press, stylists and VIPs.
