28 products awarded the 'Design Plus' prize
Strict criteria applied by the international jury
185 products submitted
The international jury of the Design Plus competition met on
13 February 2006 and selected the winners from the 185 products submitted. 28 of them came up to the exacting standards applied by the jury and can now be marked as 'Winner of Design Plus at Light+Building 2006'. The companies that entered the competition came from 15 countries.
The jury set very high standards and judged the products from a holistic point of view. The judges took account of: -Design quality -Materials chosen -Utility value -Technical quality -Ecological quality -Overall concept. In the technical-lighting category, Luceplan came away with not one but two prizes. The other prizewinners are Artemide, Erco Leuchten, Ing. Castaldi Illuminazione, LIGHTLED, melis Lighting, Philips, Regent Beleuchtungskörper, Schmitz-Leuchten and Troll – J. Feliu de la Penya. In the decorative-lighting category, the jury selected products by AML Licht +Design, BOVER Il-luminació & Mobiliari, dab-diseno actual barcelona, Dark, IP44 Schmalhorst, Lumini Equipamentos de Iluminacao and Luzifer Lamps. In the field of electrical engineering and house & building automation, Weidmüller Interface also took not one but two Design Plus prizes while one each went to Doepke Schaltgeräte, F.W. Oventrop, Lithos International, Merten, Schaefer, Vimar and WISAP Gesellschaft für wissenschaftlichen Apparatebau. The members of the international jury were: -Sebastian Brink, General Manager, Prediger GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg -Regine Leibinger Barkow Leibinger, Architects, Berlin -Andreas Danler Bartenbach LichtLabor GmbH, Innsbruck -Inga Sempé Designer, Paris -Robert Thiemann Editor-in-Chief, FRAME Magazine, Amsterdam Design Plus is one of Germany's foremost design competitions and widely accepted as a seal of quality for technical innovations with a high standard of design. The Design Plus prize is awarded to products that harmoniously combine aesthetic qualities and functionality. The prize-winning products are to be seen in Hall 4.2 during Light+Building. The competition is organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the German Design Council (Rat für Formgebung). Messe Frankfurt also holds the Design Plus competition in connection with the Ambiente, ISH and Material Vision trade fairs.
