Atelier des Prés de Brou: an ambitious diversification strategy at MAISON&OBJET
Franck Gailly reacts to being swept off his feet. Three years ago, this eyeglasses trade specialist who was in search of a changeover became infatuated with a Bressans furniture company that was put up for sale by its owner who was retiring. "I literally fell in love with this company and its products. But an administrator was needed to commercially structure it", admits the buyer of the Atelier des Près de Brou. In three years, the company that sells furniture with a certain old charm, makes itself known internationally through its know-how, its "antique dealer" patinas and the extravagance of its proposed hues and lacquers. 70% of the turnover is achieved in around thirty countries. "Today we are going further along the approach of the reinterpretation of French taste with exceptional pieces such as a Louis XV chest of drawers with a coral-coloured marble top and two smoked-glass panels". The company director has presently chosen to diversify his business: he became the sole agent in France for the Cecotti Collection contemporary furniture line and the agent for the Italian brand Grande Arredo. "A company must be in perpetual motion. If it stops, it dies. One cannot remain confined to only what one is familiar with and to what one can do. Our major strength is in creating new products, new distribution networks and new strategies to expand our web, strives for this bold one who is not fearful of economic cyclical difficulties. While waiting to develop this new business activity, the Atelier des Près du Brou is also creating surprise effects with innovations such as the violet-coloured lacquered Louis XV chest of drawers that is also gilded with gold leaf, serving as a furniture piece to accomodate a flat screen television, an asymmetrical writing desk, an immense black Empire-style bookcase or the beginnings of a new line inspired by the style of the 40s.
