Herbert Cybulska

Master of Stage Lighting, ELDA, DTHG

After having studied Theatre, German and Politics at the Free University Berlin, Herbert started his career working as a freelanced lighting designer, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1995, he graduated as a Master of Lighting Design at the professional School Darmstadt. Since then, he can boast diversified international experience having directed the lighting design for numerous projects at famous theatres and operas all over the world as well as creating lighting design for architectural projects and events. 

 Above all his co-operations with the German director and choreographer Helena Waldmann like the prize-winning plays “Letters for Tentland / Return to Sender”, “Lucky Johnny” or “Vodka Konkav” gained worlwide acknowledgement.

 Since 1995, Herbert gives diverse lectures and directs workshops e.g. for ELDA, Goethe University Frankfurt or DasArts Institute Amsterdam and holds a university teaching position for meeting technology at the VWA Frankfurt (Administration and Economics Academy).

As a photographer he worked for several publishing houses.


2006 September Joined L-Plan Lighting Design, Berlin, Germany as a partner

Since 2005 Holds a university teaching position for meeting technology at the VWA Frankfurt (Administration and Economics Academy)

Since 2003 Worked for ROKA-Werke, Reuters, INTEL-Milano and ELDA as well as IALD as a Lighting Designer for events and fairs. Created several projects again with Helena Waldmann, e.g. for the National Theatre Weimar, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Montpellier Dance, Dramatic Art Centre Teheran and Opera Lyon

2001 – 2003 Worked as Lighting Designer for the Zurich Schauspielhaus, Switzerland

2000 Created the lighting design for the cultural program of the German Pavillon at the EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Germany

Since 1996  Membership of ELDA (European Lighting Designers Association)

Since 1995  Co-operation on several, worlwide shown productions with Helena
Waldmann, a Director and Choreographer, and Work as a Lighting Designer for several Theatres and Operas, among these Accademica Filarmonica Romana, Nantes Opera, World-Wide-Videofestival Amsterdam, ars electronica Linz, Landestheater Tuebingen, MEGARON Athens and Old Opera Frankfurt. Also created event lighting design for Chrysler-Jeep, IVECO, Andersen Consulting, Accenture.

1991 – 1995 Technical director for Theaterhaus Frankfurt (special planning, lighting

1987 – 1991  Worked for Land Hessen in the field theatre-, lighting- and media- technology and for the Youth Education Place Dietzenbach, Germany, as well as for further diverse theatre projects
  
Since 1986  Membership of DTHG(Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft)

Since 1984 Worked as a freelanced Lighting Designer and Photo Designer at theatre, for events and for architects, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany
