Preliminary Final Report - AUTOTEC 2006
AUTOTEC 2006 is drawing to a close – the largest motorist show staged this year in Central Europe and one of the four most important shows of trucks and utility vehicles in Europe included in the prestigious calendar of the International Automobile Manufacturers Association O.I.C.A. Its results prove a dynamic development of the automotive industry in the Czech Republic and its neighbouring countries. The show registered a record-breaking number of exhibitors, the participation of foreign firms was double compared with its past run. Also the number of visitors was higher – most in AUTOTEC history. Both the professional and the general public were attracted in particular by vehicle premieres at the show. A world premiere was presented by Škoda Roomster N1, the interurban bus Irisbus Iveco Crossway manufactured by Karosa Vysoké Mýto, new AVIA D120 of 12 tons weight or BMW, series 1 with a possible VAT deduction. World novelties were also brought to Brno by Bosch – a new range of diagnostic devices KTS and a number of instruments for air-conditioning service ACS, KOV Velim displayed a unique semi-trailer module for ambulances and rescue teams, on TATRA stand new engines meeting the EURO 4 Standard were on show. A European or Central-European premiere had also utility vehicles Iveco Daily together with the new luxury minibus Iveco Daily Stratos, new flag ship of the make DAF XF105 equipped with the new engine PACCAR MX, engines Mercedes-Benz and Scania complying with the Standard EURO 5, new generation of the Mercedes-Benz van Sprinter, new ranges of the vehicles Ford Transit, Volkswagen Crafter, Citroen Jumper, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter, MAN TGL and MAN TGM, Renault Midlum, Volvo FH 16, Kia Carnival and some more. Attention was also aroused by vehicles on alternative drives - bus Mercedes-Benz Citaro equipped with fuel cells drive, buses and passenger cars on compressed natural gas etc. Meeting of professionals with VIP guests Among show visitors not even prominent personalities were missing, i.e. Czech Senate Chairman Přemysl Sobotka, Vice Prime Minister of the Czech Government and Minister of Transport Milan Šimonovský, Vice Chairman of the Cabinet for Economy Jiří Havel, Minister for Local Development Radko Martínek and Senator of European Parliament Petr Duchoň. Not even foreign commercial counsellors, representatives of commercial chambers, the most important branch-related associations and firms’ managers were missing among the guests. The program of conferences and seminars was as usual of a high standard; it became a source of information and a platform for specialist discussions. The key event was the 5th European Transport Congress on the topic Transport infrastructure and its financing. Also e.g. the conferences Road traffic and environment, Autosympo 2006, Safe transport 2006, International conference of experts – analysts of traffic accidents, Production and distribution of fuels and lubricants in the Czech Republic and EU, Trends in automobile logistics or Aftermarket in the Czech Republic were staged. On the occasion of the show also the results of prestigious questionnaires Truck of the Year, Van of the Year, Coach of the Year and Trailer of the Year in the Czech and Slovak Republic were announced together with the results of the 5th run of the questionnaire Automobile 4x4 in three categories. Within the competition AUTOTEX PRIX 2006 four best exhibits were awarded (semi-trailer module KOV Velim, cab XLX for the towing vehicle MAN TGA 18.440 4x2, balancing technologies Smart weight by the exhibitor AD TECHNIK and the diagnostic module of driving units by the exhibitor BOSCH). Another two firms were appraised in the competition for the most impressive stand AURA (BRISK Tábor and DaimlerChrysler Automotive Bohemia). Union of Vehicle Repairing of the Czech Republic announced at AUTOTEC the results of the competitions Car Service of the Year 2006, Car Repairman of the Year 2006 and Car Mechanic Junior 2006. Results of the automotive industry Automotive Industry Association (SAP) of the Czech Republic presented at the show the results obtained in 2006 which confirmed a dominant position of the branch in Czech economy. Receipts of the branch increased by 25.6 % (within a year), total automotive industry production exceeded 484 bill. CZK (18.8 % in Czech industrial activity receipts) and exports grew inter-annually by 17.7 % to almost 370 bill. CZK, which means a nearly five-percent share in the total exports of the Czech Republic. Production of motor vehicles in Czechia recorded a historical record in 2005: thanks to the starting operation of TPCA and increased production of Škoda Auto, it rose by more than 150 000 vehicles to the record-breaking quantity of 603 849 pcs. Most of them are represented by passenger cars, slightly also production of small utility vehicles and buses increased, on the other hand, however, production of trucks recorded a 7 % drop. The receipts of suppliers were ever higher than those of final manufacturers (they shared by 59 % in the total production of the automotive industry). Whilst final manufacturers’ production increased by 24.9 % and exports by 15.3 % (if 2005 is compared with 2004), suppliers’ receipts grew by 26.3 % and exports by as much as 19.8 %. Preliminary statistical data Within the first five show days altogether 1544 foreign visitors from 38 countries were registered at the ticket offices. Most foreign visitors came from Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Hungary. From a survey it follows that 81 % of the interviewed visitors were interested in novelties and trends. Two thirds of the visitors were professionals, 95.6 % of the respondents were satisfied with the show and 60.8 % of them expect that the importance of the show will increase in the near future. A total of 87.5 % of the respondents have been decided, as early as now, to attend also show next run. Exhibitors 85 % of exhibitors confirmed to have attained their goals at the show. Most firms were satisfied with the contacts established and contracts concluded, also with marketing information, lots of novelties and participation of significant firms. The interest in attending AUTOTEC next run was confirmed by 71.4 % of the exhibitors. Journalists Within five show days altogether 596 media representatives from 14 countries were accredited at AUTOTEC, 94 of them arrived from Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Korea, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Russia, Slovakia, Thailand, Taiwan and Turkey. Next run of the AUTOTEC Show will be staged in June 2008, the Motor Show AUTOSALON will take place from 9 to 14 June 2007. The above information is preliminary only.
